Concert 7.30pm | Pre-concert talk 7pm
Trinity Church, Hindes Road, Harrow, HA1 1RX
CARWITHEN Bishop Rock Overture
MOZART Oboe Concerto
ELGAR Symphony No. 2
Conductor: Andrew Morley
Oboe soloist: Hannah Condliffe
Conducted by Andrew Morley, a long-standing friend of Trinity Orchestra who is very much in demand as a conductor in London and the South East, our last concert of the season features music by two musical giants and one underrated British composer.
Bishop Rock is a work by the little-known female composer Doreen Carwithen, whose centenary is celebrated this year. The music, inspired by the famous lighthouse off the Isles of Scilly, is vivid and descriptive.
In complete contrast, the concert’s central work is Mozart’s sparkling staple of the repertoire, his Oboe Concerto in C major. The orchestra is thrilled to welcome Hannah Condliffe as soloist – a young, exciting and award-winning player.
Trinity Orchestra’s 2021/2022 season closes with a performance of Elgar’s ever-popular Symphony No 2, a huge work which is one of the 20th century’s most important symphonies.
We are delighted that Dr Leah Broad will join conductor Andrew Morley for our pre-concert talk at 7pm. Dr Broad is an award-winning music writer, historian, and public speaker who specialises in twentieth-century music, especially women in music. She is currently writing a group biography of four women composers, including Doreen Carwithen, for Faber & Faber.
Trinity Orchestra is grateful to The William Alwyn Foundation for their support of this concert.
