DANIEL GAREL Flicker (World premiere of a work by one of the RCMJD’s most talented young composers)
TCHAIKOVSKY Variations on a Rococo Theme (soloist: Laura van der Heijden)
BRAHMS Symphony No. 1 in C minor

Michael Murray – conductor
Laura van der Heijden – cello

Trinity Orchestra is delighted to welcome winner of the prestigious BBC Young Musician of the Year competition Laura van der Heijden as soloist in their annual concert in association with the Royal College of Music Junior Department.

At the age of 15, cellist Laura was awarded the title of BBC Young Musician 2012 following her outstanding performance of Walton’s Cello Concerto at The Sage, Gateshead. Other recent engagements include performances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (at the Royal Festival Hall), the London Mozart Players and the English Chamber Orchestra. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness this tremendously talented young musician perform Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme – a homage to the composer’s musical idol, Mozart – in the intimate setting of Trinity Church.

Also on the programme is a world premiere by one of the UK’s most talented up-and-coming young composers from the RCM’s Junior Department, plus Brahms’ long-awaited First Symphony – a radiant work full of majestic grandeur, famously dubbed ‘Beethoven’s Tenth’.

Join conductor Michael Murray for a free pre-concert talk at 7pm, through which you can learn more about the evening’s music.

Sadly this will be the final performance that Michael Murray will give with Trinity Orchestra as he has, with regret, had to offer his resignation as Music Director owing to the ever-increasing demands of his professional life as a horn player. Please do come along to this concert to join us in wishing him a very fond farewell.
