SIBELIUS Symphony No. 5
John Andrews – conductor
Ben Tarlton – cello
We’re thrilled to welcome back Music Director John Andrews to conduct Trinity Orchestra’s first concert since early 2020.
The programme’s centrepiece is one of the best-loved of all Edward Elgar’s compositions, if not the most popular and often performed piece in all of 20th-century English repertoire: his celebrated Cello Concerto in E minor. It will be performed by the exceptional young cellist Ben Tarlton.
This exciting programme of 20th and 21st century works also gives audiences the chance to enjoy Sibelius’s glorious Symphony No. 5, plus music by celebrated Scottish composer Stuart MacRae.
Daniel Kidane’s Be Still offers a poignant opening to the concert. As Kidane himself writes: “Written towards the end of 2020, Be Still is a reflective piece on the year gone by”.
Join Music Director John Andrews for a pre-concert talk at 7pm.
