GIPPS Seascape for Winds, Op. 53
HUMMEL Trumpet Concerto
BRUCKNER Symphony No. 4 in E-flat major
Trinity Orchestra
Conductor: John Andrews
Leader: Marina Solarek
Trumpet soloist: Holly Clark
Trinity Orchestra is delighted to welcome award-winning young trumpet virtuoso Holly Clark for the first concert of our exciting 2023-24 season, conducted by Music Director John Andrews. Clark will perform the delightful Trumpet Concerto by Johann Nepomuk Hummel, which has become the work for which the composer is chiefly remembered.
“I always loved the sound of the sea and particularly storms.” These are the words of composer Ruth Gipps after a trip to Broadstairs in Kent which inspired her evocative short work Seascape for ten wind players, written in 1958, which also features in this varied concert.
The mighty Symphony No. 4 by Anton Bruckner, which premiered in Vienna in 1881, is known as the Romantic – a name referring to its ambitious scope and grand emotional gestures. It was the first of Bruckner’s symphonies to achieve significant public success, and it remains among his most frequently performed works.
Join John Andrews for a free pre-concert talk at 7pm.
